Artist Spotlight: Gibson Parker

Today we’re getting to know Gibson Parker, a DJ/ Producer currently living in Nashville. Originally from Los Angeles, Parker grew up in a musical family, however he never really got into music himself until he got older. In high school he took a class that specialized in teaching DAW programs like Logic and Protools, and his whole perception of music suddenly changed. He fell in love with music and how it’s assembled in these programs. In the following months, he began spending 6 hours a day in his father’s studio making music. During this time, he exclusively made hip hop beats, but this all changed when he made a trip to EDC Las Vegas in 2017. The festival opened a new world to him, both in terms of music and culture. And after seeing Zedd’s set, he decided he wanted to make his own dance music.

After beginning the transition to EDM production, he began teaching himself to DJ. In November of 2017, he played his first show at the afterparty for RL Grime’s Nashville concert. In April of 2018, he won a DJ competition for the opening slot for the Nashville Based EDM event Project Underground. Parker draws influences from a variety of artists, including Ghastly, Loud Luxury, Joyride, Odesza and Seven Lions as well as hip hop acts like Childish Gambino and Kanye West. In terms of his current work, he is currently working on an EP and plans to release it at some point over the summer. He described the project as “Mostly good summer vibes”. I’ve had the opportunity to listen to some of this project, the good vibes are definitely present here!

Check out his song “Hawt as F*** (Riddym)” here!
